In 2020, the pandemic took Reuben’s job and turned his attention to helping others. Eventually that feeling got the better of Ryan, and SportsGrad became his new dream job.

3 days after launch, we became the #1 ‘Careers’ Podcast in Australia on iTunes. Now our podcast is sponsored by Deakin University, Australia’s leading university for sport, the SportsGrad community spans 13 countries, and our impact has facilitated 600+ jobs in sport.

We know how rewarding it feels to tell your friends and family you’ve just landed your dream job, and want to help others feel the same. SportsGrad started as a #1 podcast, and grew into a global community students, grads and professionals in sport.

We also offer affordable products to help you become a natural at networking, and stand out in job applications.

Our members have landed jobs in leading organisations like the AFL, Football Australia, Cricket Australia and the Richmond Football Club.

We loved working in elite sport, but now we love helping others.

Here’s our story 👇

Reuben Williams

In the space of 9 weeks I was stood down from work, began renting a beach house, started a business, cycled the Great Ocean Road daily, had my role made redundant, and launched a #1 podcast on iTunes.

When I dropped out of a Marketing degree to pursue sport, I had no experience and no contacts in sport.

What I did have was curiosity, and a willingness to ask the question ‘how did you get your job in sport?’

I networked, volunteered, and applied for every job under the sun.

After grinding for 5 years at uni, on the Monday after my final exam, I started my first full-time job in the Digital department at Cricket Australia.

When I landed the job, people asked me ‘how did you do it?’ So I began teaching them my method to writing CVs, cover letters, and answering interview questions.

SportsGrad was built on the foundations of solving my own problem, and strengthened through my time in the industry. Then in 2020 I was made redundant from Cricket Australia. 1 week after I lost my job, we launched the SportsGrad Podcast - about how to GET jobs in sport. Ironic, huh. The imposter syndrome was high, but 3 days later we hit #1 for ‘Careers’ on Apple Podcasts.

I loved working at Cricket Australia, but now I love helping others with their career.

Ryan Walker

The day I accepted a role at Cricket Australia was a dream come true, now I love helping people find their dream job.

The experience of working in social sport, and with player managers gave me the skills to land my first full-time job.

When I started at Cricket Australia, I met Reuben at induction - also on his first day. 4 years of advancing between roles in Community and Commercial Partnerships taught me what it takes to grow a fulfilling career in sport.

Whether that was helping to deliver community cricket championships or make volunteers lives easier, all the way to managing commercial partners and leading guests onto the MCG on Boxing Day. The lessons I learned gave me the tools to help others succeed.

Eventually the feeling of helping others land their dream job became my passion, and in doing so I left behind my dream job.
Through my experience at Cricket Australia and industry knowledge, I want to help people achieve their goal.
