After 6 years of technology recruitment experience, I wasn’t sure the best way to translate my skillset or get traction while making a complete career switch into the sporting industry.

I was struggling to get past the application stage for jobs as I wasn’t able to best highlight my experiences. That’s where Reuben and the SportsGrad program really stepped in to help me.
What I benefitted from the most was Reuben’s extensive network and connections in the market. He was able to steer me in the right direction and introduce me to a number of people who could either help me with my application or share some valuable knowledge on the industry with me. Reuben introduced me to the right people and coached me on the best way to articulate my experience and what value I could bring to an organisation, and it resulted in me landing a Fan Growth & Revenue Manager position with SEN/Melbourne Mavericks.
The SportsGrad Accelerator Program was value for money and worked quickly for me. There’s something for everyone in the program no matter where you are in your career, and presented a much more realistic option for me vs going back to study. The program allowed me to not have to worry about that step. I would highly recommend the program, I’m just happy I took the leap and signed up.

It’s like asking when should I start training for a Marathon, because the day you start job hunting is the day you start your race. If you start training the night before the Marathon, it’s going to be an extremely hard slog.
You don’t want your dream job to pop up and catch you unprepared while you’re left thinking “Ah f*** I wish I put in the work”. The reality is that jobs in sport are rare and ultra-competitive, especially the good ones. If you miss one, it might not come back around for years. So you may never get another chance to apply for the role of ‘Commercial Partnerships Coordinator at Cricket Australia’ because there’s only one of them.
Becoming Industry-Wanted takes time.
Time to build your brand, to turn contacts into people who refer you, and to learn how to sell yourself and your potential. The sooner you start, the sooner you’re ready.
Now you could try doing it alone but still be jobless in 5 months thinking ‘what am I doing wrong?’ Or you could follow a proven method that shows you how to become the obvious choice.
Remember, the goal of the program is to help you get a job in sport and give you a proven method that works. I totally understand, your time is valuable. But let’s be real for a second. If you’re currently at uni or spending hours a day applying for jobs, or sending messages on LinkedIn, what’s the end goal? The goal is to work in sport, right?
So let’s flip this. Uni is meant to help you get a job in sport. Job applications are meant to help you get a job in sport. But what if the way you’re spending your time isn’t actually working? If I keep doing what I’m doing, am I really getting closer to landing a role in sport? Or is it time to change my approach and actually learn what works?
Most people apply for 100 or more jobs and hear nothing back. And that’s because Uni does at great job at making you industry-ready (along with 1000s of other). The SportsGrad Method helps you become industry-wanted so that you’re no longer invisible to the industry and the jobs come to you.
So the real question isn’t “can I fit this in?”
The real question is “can I afford not to?”
But if you’re wondering “can I fit this in around White Lotus and Steak Night?” then this program isn’t for you.
At then end of the day, we all have 168 hours in the week. Your life reflects your priorities. And the ones who put in the work to use the method, get results in sport.
Ok let me be clear - there are no prizes for completing 100% of the program. I refuse to give anyone a ‘certificate of completion’ that gives you a false sense of achievement. We’re here to get you a job in sport. Your prize is a pay cheque for doing work you love.
Therefore, even if it only took a couple of sessions and the right introduction through our network to land a job paying anywhere from $55k to $100k+ it would still be worth it right? So if not being able to make the most of it every single week is stopping you from joining, or you’re waiting for the perfect conditions... then the reality is you’re holding yourself back from any progress at all. Recently I went to an online Tony Robbins event, it was 4 days long, and ran from 1am to 1pm my time. I missed most of the second half of the program because I was so sleep deprived. But do I regret investing in it? No, because for the parts I did consume, they still helped me make progress in life far greater that the price tag. So if you wait until you give 100% you’ll be stuck at 0%. Start messy, show up and put the work in when you can, and let the method do the heavy lifting.
If you’re keen to get involved but you’re about to start a new job, or go travelling, or life’s just hectic, here’s what you need to consider before you delay joining:
What’s the outcome you want most?
If it’s to land a full-time job in sport, then the real question becomes: What’s going to help you get there sooner? If you’ve just started a new role (like a short-term contract or a role outside of sport), we totally understand that your time and energy may be limited.
But the truth is, you don’t need to be at 100% capacity to benefit from the SportsGrad Method.
Even if you:
- Show up to a coaching call once a fortnight
- Reach out to just one new connection each week
- Post on LinkedIn once a month
- Come to the odd Community dinner or coffee catch up
- Watch one workshop recording per weekend
- That’s still meaningful progress, and it puts you in a far better position 3 months from now.
On the flip side...If you defer until you’re ‘ready’, you’re guaranteeing the point in time where you’ll start from scratch. That means the real impact of the program might not be felt until 6+ months from now, instead of <3.
So the real question is…
Do you want to have job options 3 months from now? Or do you want to start from scratch 3 months from now? (where you are now)
This guy thanked me for encouraging him to not delay his career any longer…So Josh Dembo (27) joined cohort #3 and then immediately went travelling for 2 months. He wasn’t able to engage much. But he stayed lightly connected, then dived in when he got home.
And because he started earlier, he’s now in a great position to act on opportunities, instead of scrambling from zero. When got home we caught up for coffee he went as far as thanking me for encouraging him to get started sooner. And now he’s meeting with recruiters, has watched all the recordings from Cohort #3 and is paired up with his mentor, Ben Jesse, who’s had over 20+ years of Commercial experience in sport across SailGP, Cricket Australia, NBL, Tennis Australia and Motorsport… and is ready to dive into the Cohort #4 ‘Industry-Wanted’ sprint with a head start.
This happens all the time: people make some progress now, then more when life frees up, and that’s what unlocks momentum.
It’s like doing your pre-season before game-day of round 1. If you want to start seriously looking for jobs 3+ months from now, that’s your game-day.And every athlete knows you have to put in a strong preseason to win that first game of the season. But even if your pre-season is limited and you can only put in 50%, it’s still better than doing nothing at all.
(imagine trying to run a marathon without doing the training - I did, it wasn’t fun)
What you don’t want to happen is, game-day arrives, your dream job appears online, and you WISH you had made the right connection, or had built the online presence, or had the skills to sell yourself, at that moment in time. Dream jobs in sport don’t come around too often… which is why those who are prepared, grab the opportunity when it’s there.
A few more things to consider:
You don’t need to ‘nail it’ every week to benefit.
Baby steps still compound
Every intake increases in price (as we add more value) so this is the lowest it will be
There’s a job guarantee, meaning, once you're in, you stay until you land a role
So if you know you’re going to join eventually, joining now helps you get value immediately, even if you're only using 50% of it to begin with.
Bottom line?
- If you’re thinking to do the program now or later…
- But you want options (and to not be starting from scratch) come the day you’re ready…
And you want the best price for the program…
Start now.
If you’re ready to get started, apply or lock in your place today, and let’s get cracking.
That quote is from Dante, the guy who jumped in and got a dream job at Cricket Australia in 16 days. To be honest, almost nobody who joins is 100% sure it’ll work for them, at first. They’re unsure because they’ve tried applying for jobs, sending cold DMs, or doing what uni told them and as a result they’re industry-ready but not industry-wanted. So I don’t expect your blind belief. What I do expect is that you’re coachable, willing to show up, and ready to follow a proven system that has already helped myself and hundreds of students, career swappers and expats - land jobs in sport, often within weeks. But even if you decide not to join, your problem doesn’t change. You still have to grow a brand people trust, have connections that vouch for you, and know how to sell yourself like your career depends on it (because, well... it does). So if you’d like to get to the job you’re looking for sooner rather than later, and and avoid the stress of rejection fatigue that causes people to give up on their dreams - use The SportsGrad Method to put your career on track, and let’s get started.
