YOU'RE NOT BEHIND BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

YOU'RE BEHIND BECAUSE NO ONE TAUGHT YOU HOW SPORT ACTUALLY HIRES.

You send the applications. You polish the resume. You follow the advice. And yet nothing moves.
Here's what no one tells you about sport hiring:

"There's no bonus points for doing it the hard way. Hiring managers look at their network first. Then their network-of-network. Job boards come last."
- Allison Robison, EGM People & Culture, Cricket Australia

Sport doesn't have a recruitment problem.

It has a filtering problem.

And if you don't know how the filter works, you'll stay on the wrong side of it.

No matter how hard you try.

WHERE YOU'RE GOING WRONG
If you're invisible, volume doesn't help. It just increases frustration. The roles you want are filled before they're even posted.
Sport hiring cycles don't pause. Every month you wait, someone else is building the visibility, network, and positioning you haven't started yet.
A resume is your last line of defence, not your first impression. Employers decide based on familiarity and trust, not credentials alone.
Vague people don't get referred. When someone asks "do you know anyone good?" your name only comes up if you're known for something specific.
YOU KNOW THE PROBLEM.
HERE'S THE METHOD.

From Tech recruitment to the Melbourne Mavericks

After 6 years of technology recruitment experience, I wasn’t sure the best way to translate my skillset or get traction while making a complete career switch into the sporting industry.

I was struggling to get past the application stage for jobs as I wasn’t able to best highlight my experiences. That’s where Reuben and the SportsGrad program really stepped in to help me.

What I benefitted from the most was Reuben’s extensive network and connections in the market. He was able to steer me in the right direction and introduce me to a number of people who could either help me with my application or share some valuable knowledge on the industry with me.  Reuben introduced me to the right people and coached me on the best way to articulate my experience and what value I could bring to an organisation, and it resulted in me landing a Fan Growth & Revenue Manager position with SEN/Melbourne Mavericks.

The SportsGrad Accelerator Program was value for money and worked quickly for me. There’s something for everyone in the program no matter where you are in your career, and presented a much more realistic option for me vs going back to study. The program allowed me to not have to worry about that step. I would highly recommend the program, I’m just happy I took the leap and signed up.

land a job in weeks. not months.

The SportsGrad Advantage:
Confidence

Tom Blaszczyk - "It's just built my confidence that I can belong in this field. You can't put a monetary value on that."
Katherine Jeffcock - “It's helped me be more confident in reaching out to people and creating relationships”
Bec Carter "His attention to detail and authentic support have greatly boosted my confidence."
Joel Blashki - "One of the unintentional outcomes was me absorbing that confidence and radiating it back out into the world."
Leah Rizk - "The main outcome I got from joining the program was confidence."
Caitlin Hildyard - “I feel way more confident about going out, talking to people, being able to land those jobs.”

"The third outcome was actually self belief and confidence..."

...And I don't think that's necessarily something you see as an outcome when you join a program like this, but it's something that you definitely get and you might not realise comes from the knowledge of knowing that you've got a system that has integrity behind you and you know that you're actually clear on what you're working towards and how you're working towards that.

So there's a lot of self assurance, and a bit of confidence that comes from that. And it actually sort of comes also from Reuben himself. It kind of emanates from him. He comes across as quite confident and knowledgeable, which he is.

And I found that one of the unintentional outcomes of that program was me actually sort of absorbing that confidence and radiating that back out into the world and that paying off quite well."
