Case Study

The SportsGrad Method feels almost like a cheat code to finding a job in sports over here in the UK. At the end of last year, I decided I wanted to challenge myself by relocating to what I consider the world's best sports industry to hopefully land a job in Football or Motorsports. I have a background in event operations at the Tour Down Under and also over 5 years in hospitality and venue management, but a sports job in the UK seemed almost impossible to achieve. That's when I began to research into how I could make the transition easier and stumbled upon this program. After a discussion with Reuben about my goals and what the program could do to help me reach them, I was sold.

Having joined the program a couple months prior to the move, it allowed me to put all the pieces in place to hit the ground running when I finally arrived in the UK. This gave me a couple of weeks to begin studying the comprehensive curriculum and better understand how I can break into this industry. I took these learnings into my 1 on 1 sessions with Reuben, where he assisted me in understanding my skills and value I can bring to the sports industry and assisted in tailoring my resume and cover letter to best reflect this. The weekly inner circle discussions were a great start to meet people in similar scenarios and hold each other accountable towards the goals we set at the start of the program.

But the real value of this program I have found lies within the mentors that Reuben has organised as a part of this program. The introduction to my primary mentor Sam, who was already based in the UK sports event space, has made my transition to the UK so much smoother. Sam has helped me by being my point of contact for any and all questions prior to the move, taking me to industry events such as Premier League matches to introduce me to some of his fellow colleagues, and being a point of call for any questions I have on the UK job market. Through his connections I am now in early talks with Brentford FC and the FA regarding upcoming roles.

On top of this I have been begun developing a strong network of connections from other UK football professionals to Olympic organising committee members, all of which I would feel confident could help me into the right role if it came up.

Thanks to this program, I have gone from not even knowing where to begin with landing a sports job in the UK to feeing confident that with a little patience I will eventually land the job that will change my life right here in the UK, and this is all within the first week of being here!
